Why consider Islamic University?
IU is unique among Bangladeshi public universities because it combines traditional Islamic studies with modern science and technology. Its Faculty of Theology and Islamic Studies offers specialised departments like Al-Quran and Islamic Studies, Al-Hadith and Islamic Studies, and Da'wah and Islamic Studies — subjects not available at most other universities. At the same time, its Faculty of Engineering and Technology offers Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Applied Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, and Computer Science and Engineering.
This combination makes IU suitable for students who want either a faith-based academic path or a modern science and technology degree — or both — in a single university.

Eligibility and admission test
The final 2026-27 circular will confirm the exact SSC and HSC pass-year rules, minimum GPA, subject requirements, quota provisions, application fee and test format. IU typically requires:
- HSC or equivalent passed in 2024 or 2025 (check circular for exact years)
- Science background for science and engineering departments
- Combined GPA requirements that vary by faculty
- Separate admission tests for different units (A, B, C, D units typically correspond to Science, Arts, Business, and Theology)
The IU admission test is typically MCQ-based with negative marking. Each unit has its own subject distribution and mark allocation. The D unit (Theology) is unique to IU and is not available at most other public universities.
How to prepare for IU admission
- Check which unit matches your HSC background and preferred subjects.
- Revise the core HSC subjects for your unit — Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics for Science; Bangla, English, General Knowledge for Arts.
- For the D unit (Theology), prepare Islamic Studies topics alongside general subjects.
- Practise previous IU admission questions to understand the pattern.
- Pay attention to negative marking — accuracy matters more than attempting every question.
